Straight rod element dimensioning
The determining factors when dimensioning straight rod
elements are the specific loads and the
temperature limits of the heated material, the tube
shell and the heating conductor.
If
the heating element is accurately dimensioned, it will
operate reliably and over a long period. This also
requires the element to be installed correctly and have
an adequate outflow of heat. The temperature
limits of the medium and, if liquids are heated,
suitable protection against boiling dry should also be
considered.
E.G.O straight rod elements from E.G.O are supplied
in lengths ranging from 914mm (3ft) to 2439mm (8ft).
DIN 44875 also includes recommended specific surface
loads.
Tube
shell temperature
The tube shell temperature depends on the specific
surface load and the surrounding medium. A surface
load of 5 W/cm² for operation in air, for example,
results in a surface temperature of approx. 670°C
(steady state).

Ambient temperature
In applications with
static air, the tube shell temperature is a
function of the ambient temperature and installation
conditions. |
Rod Element End
Connections:
Straight rod tubular elements are fitted with a standard
M3 x 20mm long thread and are supplied with locking nuts
and washers.
Note: Available for volume orders, CDR
Technical Services Ltd are able to arrange for
straight rod elements to be bent to customers
specification. For further information, please contact
our Sales Department.

Short Gland Assemblies are supplied separately for wet
applications, or were a air tight seal is required. This
is created by using a brass olive which compresses onto
the element when the locking nut is tightened.

Example: If the surface load is 6 W/cm² and the ambient temperature is 300°C, the surface temperature will be 800°C.
E.G.O Elements are all VDE and UL approved.
